Not to sound over critical, but unless Gaborik is retiring , he needs to be flipped for some assets, it would be unacceptable to see the likes of Karlson , Hoffman, Brassard ,Ceci leave but not Gaborik....

Gaborik has negative value. the only way you move him is trading for another bad contract/player or add something of value to get rid of him

We all know this deal was made for one reason, money.

This is for Eugene to scrape a little profit from this dumpster fire season. I wouldn’t be surprised if more moves like this are coming.

In the long run this makes his team worse so how much money does it actually save?

The Kings got a 2nd pairing d man who plays all season and the Sens got a player who plays 55 games a season scoring 12 goals or lower. For 1 million less in cap hit this makes the Sens much worse.(after the 25% retained)

And.. what else is coming for a player that unless he just wants to be a big fish in a small pond is gone!

Would LA do that though, then they'd have to use a protection spot on Phaneuf.

They likely thought last year wasn't an anomaly, and they could use Phaneuf to make a push in the playoffs.

I think Melnyk is going more short term dollars saved. Who knows what the Jester of Barbados is thinking.

So, now we just need to retain some salary to get Ryan out the door.

What's the over under on how much that would take.

What a terrible trade.

Sens Lose and LA Gains.....

Dion - A guy who is a very solid 2nd line D, brings leadership, mentor-ship, is great in the community, fits in with the team well.... The only bad thing about having him is his contract.

Thompson - a good 3rd-4th line guy who comes up with a few timely goals and is responsible in both ends of the rink and can be relied on.

LA Lose and Sens Gain.....

Gaborik - A washed up guy who is just as overpaid as Dion, can't skate anymore and from all passed teams brings no leadership.

Shore - a 4th line C who should be in the AHL

The trade is bad enough as is, but adding in that we retain 25% of Dion. PD better have something good coming, better not trade Duchene, Hoffman, Karlsson, Chabot or Stone.

He should be fired

I'd imagine they buy out Gaborik and use the cap space to pay Karlsson all the money in the world.

Then why wouldn't they buy out Dion, especially with the 25% retained.

They talked on the team 1200 today that they think they'll pair Gaborik with Fast skaters like Hoffman and Duchene or maybe even a White. Hope that energizes him a bit. Get him some goals to build at least a bit of value and then flip him out in a summer trade.

That's a pretty big hope considering Boucher's system is even more rigid than Sutter's was.
